Groundbreaking Lithuanian energy projects secure funding under joint Baltic and Nordic Initiative

The projects selected for funding under the Joint Baltic and Nordic Energy Research Program have been announced and they all come from Lithuania.

The three projects selected, namely AMPROSE, In-Charge and E-Pla2Meth focus on green ammonia production, battery technology and converting plastic waste into green methanol. Researchers from Vilnius University, Kaunas University of Technology and the Lithuanian Energy Institute will collaborate with partners to implement these projects.

The AMPROSE project aims to explore the potential for green ammonia production. It will investigate the feasibility of using renewable energy sources (such as wind and solar) to produce raw ammonia in the Baltic and Nordic regions. The analysis will encompass the entire energy market ecosystem, including energy generation, transmission and consumption, with a particular focus on factors affecting the production and pricing of green ammonia.

The In-Charge project proposes a high-throughput computational approach to create a catalog of battery-relevant material interfaces. The results will be provided as a dataset to support further experimental testing, aiding in the discovery of better materials for high-capacity and high-power batteries.

Finally, the E-Pla2Meth project aims to efficiently recycle plastic waste into green methanol. The research will focus on materials, thermochemical processes and process intensification.

700,000 euros will be allocated from the Joint Baltic and Nordic Energy Research Program while 216,000 euros will be provided by the Ministry of Energy.
