Continued strategic cooperation between Bulgaria and the United States in the field of energy was the focus of a discussion between Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov and US Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources Geoffrey R. Pyatt during the Three Seas Initiative Summit. “Thanks to the dialogue and successful partnership between our two countries, the Bulgarian energy sector meets the long-term diversification and sustainable development goals,” Minister Malinov underlined. In his words, both natural gas and nuclear energy have made key progress in terms of energy security.

They discussed the implementation of the initiative of the gas transmission operators of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine and Moldova for a Vertical Corridor. The development of the gas transmission infrastructure along this route is key to energy security not only in southeastern Europe but also in Ukraine and Moldova, they agreed during the conversation.

The minister also stressed that the Ministry of Energy will work together with US partners to develop a competitive and transparent energy market in Bulgaria.

Earlier, within the framework of his participation in the 9th Annual Meeting of the Delphi Economic Forum in Greece, Minister Malinov met with US Ambassador to Greece H.E. George J. Tsunis. “We expect the liquefied gas terminal in Alexandroupolis, Greece, to be commercially operational next month. The implementation of the project will improve energy security in Bulgaria, Greece and the Southeast European region,” Mr Malinov highlighted during the discussion.
