Bulgaria launches energy storage and renewables tender

Bulgaria’s Ministry of Energy announced two tenders to add 1,425 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy to the grid and 350 MW of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.

The main goal of the investment is to increase the share of clean energy in Bulgaria’s energy mix on its way to climate neutrality.

In particular,  the first tender, with a budget of 107.6 million levs (approximately 55 million euros) will finance the construction of solar and wind projects and co-located BESS with an installed capacity ranging from 200 kilowatts (kW) to 2 MW. The second tender The second with a total budget of 427.5 million levs (approximately 218 million euros) will support new solar and wind projects, along with their related BESS projects, with an installed capacity of which exceeds 200 kW.

Eligible will be all the Bulgarian companies with the exception of the agriculture, forest and fishery sectors.
