Friendly Wind Technology, a member of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association (UWEA) has recently launched a newly built wind turbine production facility in the Zakarpattia Region. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies in combination with an innovative approach, the company plans to produce up to 20 wind turbines annually with a unit capacity ranging from 4.8 to 5.5 megawatts (MW).

Friendly Wind Technology is Ukraine’s sole manufacturer of multi-megawatt-class wind turbines. The company started its operations in Zakarpattia after relocating its facilities from the east of the country after the outbreak of a full-scale war in 2022.

Last year, the company commenced construction of the first wind power plant in Zakarpattia, with a total capacity of approximately 80 MW. The ambitious project portfolio includes wind farms totalling 500 MW.

“With over 80 per cent of Ukraine’s thermal and hydroelectric generation facilities destroyed, swift decisions to restore the energy system are crucial,” emphasised Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the UWEA Board. “Building energy facilities powered by local renewable sources can save both the population and businesses from the energy crisis, ensuring a transition to decentralised, resilient generation.”

Domestic wind turbine production significantly contributes to the deployment of renewable energy and machine building industry in Ukraine. It bolsters the resilience and reliability of Ukraine’s energy system, enhances environmental safety, and supports economic recovery.
