Romania’s electricity producer Hidroelectrica resumed the auction for the refurbishment of the Vidraru hydropower development through the electronic public procurement system (SEAP). The estimated value of the contract for this project is 188 million euros, reflecting an update of the costs to the new market values.

The “Vidraru Hydropower Development Refurbishment” project aims to carry out a complex set of works, including the installation of mechanical and electrical equipment, the integration of modernised installations, construction works for the replacement/rehabilitation of the existing equipment, the reinforcement of hydro-technical constructions, such as the dam, the pressure by-pass, the power plant, the operational block and building a warehouse for waste and reusable materials. The project also includes the implementation of an automatic control system to coordinate the operation of equipment and installations, technical condition assessment services, design and engineering for each technical unit, as well as project management activities to coordinate the entire refurbishment process.

“We know that it is an extremely complex project, with multiple variables and risks, but it is of the utmost importance and priority both for Hidroelectrica and for the national energy system,” said Karoly Borbely, CEO of Hidroelectrica. “We trust that these changes, which the new team forming the management board undertakes, will lead to the successful award of the contract and the effective completion of the works.”

With this announcement, Hidroelectrica has reaffirmed its commitment to the modernisation and efficiency of its hydropower infrastructure, thus contributing to the sustainable development of the energy sector in Romania.
