Slovakia has initiated negotiations with neighbouring countries of Austria and Hungary to discuss the security of gas supply, in the case of a possible termination of gas transport through Ukraine after 2024.

“In addition to continuing diversifying gas supplies and implementing measures to reduce gas consumption, it is necessary to make efforts to preserve the transportation of gas through Ukraine even after 2024,” stated the first state secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Kamil Šaško during the latest Energy Council which took place in Brussels.

According to Slovakia, keeping gas flowing through Ukraine is crucial, even though there are already many alternatives in place like the construction of the new interconnections with Hungary and Poland and the increase in the reverse flow capacity from the Czech Republic and Austria.
