Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó said natural gas will start flowing from Turkey to Hungary on 1 April.

Péter Szijjártó emphasised that 275 million cubic metres (mcm) of gas will arrive in the coming months on a contractual basis, making Hungary the first non-neighbouring country that Turkey exports gas to.

“Turkey has played an important role in ensuring Hungary’s energy security so far, but until now only as a transit route, now, however, also as a source country,” reminded the Minister.

“We are also strengthening our cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, as the new nuclear power plant in Turkey, which will soon be operational, is being built with the same technology as the new Paks power plant. Thus, the experiences gained during the Turkish construction will also be helpful to us. Turkish experts will also assist their Hungarian colleagues in the technical inspection of equipment with long production times,” Péter Szijjártó expressed on his social media platform.
